A framed English intaglio on charcoal double mount acid free paper with distressed silver leaf wood frame. Intaglio depicts a cameo of woman in matte white plaster and is in a charcoal beveled square inset box. Intaglios portrayed Greek and Roman deities, architectural details, mythological figures and religious iconography. Originally used to impress wax seals on letters and documents, the finished impression represented a cameo. In the 1800's plaster intaglios were originally collected by wealthy tourists as travel souvenirs from European vacations. Our intaglios are hand cast by master craftsmen using old world techniques. Made to order in the USA.
